MediaWiki Installation with PairSIM

PairSIM is a software installation manager that makes downloading and managing popular software easy.

You can use PairSIM to install MediaWiki, a scalable software that uses PHP to process and display data from a database in a wiki. A wiki, like the popular Wikipedia site, is a sort of knowledge base that allows users to collaborate and modify the data. See the article What is MediaWiki for more information.

Note that this tutorial uses PairSIM, which is a web hosting add on. When this add on is enabled, your account is charged a monthly fee.

MediaWiki Installation with PairSIM

Choose the tutorial that reflects your ACC interface type:

If you are using the Legacy Interface:

  1. Log in to the Account Control Center (ACC) by my.pair.com
  2. In the left sidebar, click PairSIM and click Software Installation Manager in the drop-down
  3. If you have not yet enabled PairSIM, do so now by clicking Enable Software Installation Manager
  4. Under “Software Available for Installation,” click the MediaWiki link
  5. Enter the required information:

URLSelect the domain name from the drop-down and enter the desired extension in the box.
DatabaseA database will be created for your MediaWiki installation. If you want to name your database, click Advanced Options and then enter the name in the open box.
Site NameEnter the name of the site.
Site E-MailEnter the email that should be associated with your site.
Admin E-MailEnter the email that will be used for admin purposes. Information regarding this installation, such as your MediaWiki credentials,  may be sent to this address.
  1. When finished, click Install MediaWiki

    If installed successfully, a page will appear telling you that your MediaWiki installation was successful and show some information about your installation.
  2. When finished, click Return to Software Installation Management.

    This will return you to the “Software Installation Manager” interface, which will now show your currently installed software. MediaWiki should now be shown in the “Currently Installed Software” section.

If you are using the New ACC Interface:

  1. Log in to the Account Control Center (ACC) by my.pair.com
  2. In the top navigation bar, click Hosting
  3. Click the Software button
  4. If you have not yet enabled PairSIM, do so now by clicking the Enable Software Installation Manager button
  5. In the “Software Available for Installation” section, find MediaWiki and click its Install button
  6. Enter the required information:
URLSelect the domain name from the drop-down and enter the desired extension in the box.
DatabaseA database will be created for your MediaWiki installation. If you want to name your database, click Advanced Options and then enter the name in the open box.
Site NameEnter the name of the site.
Site EmailEnter the email that should be associated with your site.
Admin EmailEnter the email that will be used for admin purposes. Information regarding this installation, such as your MediaWiki credentials,  may be sent to this address.
  1. When finished, click Install MediaWiki

    If installed successfully, a page will appear telling you that your MediaWiki installation was successful and show some information about your installation.
  2. When finished, click the Return to Software Installation Management button

    This will return you to the Software Installation Manager interface, which will now show your currently installed software. MediaWiki should now be shown in the “Currently Installed Software” section.
