Adding WordPress Themes

Finding WordPress Themes

It is recommended that you use the official WordPress Theme Directory. The Theme Directory contains only themes that have been checked by WordPress and only themes that are free to download.

Installing Using the Admin Panel

After finding a theme you like using the Theme Directory, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the installation instructions for the theme. This is because, while a theme can be added using the Admin Panel, additional customization and setup is often possible or required in order to get the theme to affect the look and presentation of your site in the way that you'd like.

Once you have found a theme you would like to install and have familiarized yourself with the theme's installation considerations, you can add the theme using the WordPress Admin Panel:

  1. Log in to the WordPress Admin Panel
  2. Click on the Appearance menu entry
  3. Click on the Themes entry
  4. Click on the Add New button at the top of the Themes interface
  5. Browse to find the theme you'd like to install or search through available themes using the Search input
  6. Click on the theme's entry in the Theme Directory to be taken to a page that shows a preview of the theme, a description, and (if available) reviews for the theme
  7. If you are interested in installing the theme, click on the Install button

Activating Your Theme

Installing a theme does not automatically set the theme to be your active theme. Additionally, you can have multiple themes installed at once, but only one theme will be active at any given time.

To see your installed themes and select an active theme, visit the WordPress Admin Panel:

  1. Log in to the WordPress Admin Panel
  2. Click on the Appearance menu entry
  3. Click on the Themes menu entry
  4. You will see a list of your installed themes
  5. Click on the entry for the theme you wish to activate
  6. Click on the Activate button
