How to Add a Domain to Your Hosting Account

The first step to starting your website is to add a domain to your hosting account. If you haven’t registered a domain yet, we recommend going to pair Domains and registering one. See How to Choose the Perfect Name for Your Domain for helpful tips about the selecting a domain name.

Adding a Domain to Your Hosting Account

After you have registered a domain, you can add the domain to your hosting account. By doing this, you will be able to launch the domain to the internet and build a website for it.

  1. Log in to the ACC
  2. Click Domains in the left sidebar
  3. Click Add a Domain Name
  4. Under Select Domain Name, select Add Domain Name and enter the registered domain name in the corresponding text field
  5. Under Select Hosting Type, select your preferred hosting type. See more information about hosting types in our article, What Types of Domain Hosting are Available?
  6. Click Proceed

This will add the domain to your hosting account. On the next page, it will show you the name servers associated with this domain name. You need to take note of these since you will need them in the next step. They will look something like:

dns3.pair.com
ns8.ns0.com

Finding Your Name Servers

If you have already added a domain name and did not take note of the name servers, you can find them again by following these steps:

  1. Click Domains in the left sidebar
  2. Click Manage Your Domain Names
  3. Find the name of your chosen domain, then click it
  4. Find the Name Servers category

The name servers for the domain will be listed here.

Pointing the Name Servers to Your Account

While the hosting account may now know that it’s supposed to have the domain, your domain registrar doesn’t. You need to alert your domain registrar to allow the hosting account to access and host your domain. To do this, you need to go to your registrar and give them the name servers you were given for the domain. Each registrar is different, so look at your registrar’s documentation for the specific steps to this process. If you used pair Domains as your registrar, you can find the steps in their Changing Name Servers article.

Give the changes 24 to 48 hours to be processed. After this period of time, your domain should be successfully added and ready to host a website.
