How to Add a Domain to Your Hosting Account

A “domain” is another word for the URL your site uses, like pair.com. If you want your own custom URL, find your package type below and follow their steps:

Adding a Domain on Shared, VPS, or Dedicated

Shared

VPS

Dedicated

If you have a Shared, VPS, or Dedicated hosting account, follow these steps.

Step 1: Register a Domain

The first step is to register your domain.

Already have a registered domain? You can skip to Step 2: Add a Domain

Domain registrations last a year or more, and allow you to use the domain for that length of time. If your registration expires, you will lose access to the domain and someone else may register it.

You can register a domain easily at PairDomains.com.

Step 2: Add a Domain

After you have registered a domain, you can add the domain to your hosting account. By doing this, you will be able to launch the domain to the internet and build a website for it.

Choose the tutorial that reflects your ACC interface type:

Not sure what the difference is? See Which ACC Interface Am I Using?

If you are using the Legacy Interface:

  1. Log in to the ACC
  2. Click Domains in the left sidebar
  3. Click Add a Domain Name
  4. Under Select Domain Name, select Add Domain Name and enter the registered domain name in the corresponding text field
  5. Under Select Hosting Type, select your preferred hosting type. See more information about hosting types in our article, What Types of Domain Hosting are Available?
  6. Click Proceed

If you are using the New ACC Interface:

  1. Log into the Account Control Center (ACC) at my.pair.com
  2. In the top navigation bar, click Domains
  3. On the Domains page, click the Add New button
  4. Under the “Add Existing Domain/Subdomain” section, select Add Domain
  5. In the text field, enter your domain name. Do not include the http:// or the www. prefix.
  6. Under the “Select Hosting Type” section, select your desired IP hosting type. For more information about the different types of IP addresses, see What Types of Domain Hosting Are Available?
  7. Click the Proceed button

This will add the domain to your hosting account. On the next page, it will show you the name servers associated with this domain name. You need to take note of these since you will need them in the next step. They will look something like:

dns3.pair.com

ns8.ns0.com

Step 3: Pointing Name Servers

Next, you need to change the name servers for your domain. When a domain is first registered, it is given filler name servers. However, when you add a domain name to a hosting account, you need to change the name servers to the ones associated with the hosting server. To make this change, you will need to go to your domain registrar.

If you completed Step 1 of this tutorial, then your domain registrar is Pair Domains. Find the steps to changing your name services in this article: Changing Name Servers.

Each registrar is different, so look at your registrar’s documentation for the specific steps.

Give the changes 24 to 48 hours to be processed. After this period of time, your domain should be successfully added and ready to host a website.
