Password Protect Your WordPress Staging Site

Want an additional layer of protection on your staging site? If so, you can use our HTTP Authentication feature.

Staging sites are only available on Managed WordPress or Podcast Websites accounts.

What is HTTP Authentication?

HTTP Authentication locks your website (in this case, your staging site) behind a username and password. Anyone who tries to visit your site will be prompted for a username/password before the site is displayed.

Enabling HTTP Authentication

To add HTTP Authentication to your staging site, you must first set up a staging site. See this article, Creating a Staging Site, for steps to set up a staging site.

Choose the tutorial that reflects your ACC interface type:

Not sure what the difference is? See Which ACC Interface Am I Using?

If you are using the Legacy Interface:

  1. Log in to your Managed WordPress or Podcast Websites account at my.pair.com
  2. In the left sidebar, click WordPress
  3. In the drop-down, click Staging Site
  4. Click the [Select Site] field, then select the staging site you would like to add HTTP Authentication to
  5. Click the Manage Site: Staging button
  6. Click the Add Staging HTTP Auth Password button
  7. Take note of the HTTP Authentication username and password on the next page. These are the credentials you will use to log in to view your site.

  2. In the top navigation bar, click WordPress
  3. Find your WordPress site and click its staging icon
