A template is a reusable base that Pair Site Builder uses to build websites.They adapt to any theme’s style, serving as the foundation for a page’s design.
Pair Site Builder comes equipped with a variety of different templates, but you can also build your own.
Step 1: Accessing the Templates Interface
- Log in to your Pair Site Builder interface.
- In the left sidebar, hover over the Appearance tab
- In the drop-down, click Editor
- In the left sidebar, click the Templates tab
This opens the template interface. See Templates for more information about this page.
Step 2: Creating a New Template
- In the template interface, click the + button
- Select what the new template should apply to.
If you select Custom Template, you will need to enter a template name. - Select a pattern as a base for your template. You can also click the Skip link to skip this step and start from scratch.
- Use the block builder to edit your template.

Tip: You can use the block menu to add patterns and template parts to your new template.
- When finished, click the Save button in the right sidebar
Note: If you are editing templates for a specific location, saving changes may automatically apply the template to those areas on the site. Uncheck the boxes under the Templates heading to prevent your changes from being automatically applied. - Click the Save button again
This will create the new template.
Viewing Existing Templates
- In the left sidebar, hover over the Appearance tab
- In the drop-down, click Editor
- In the left sidebar, click the Templates tab
- Click the Manage all templates button
This will take you to the Manage Templates page, where you can view all of your templates. For an in-depth explanation of this page, see Customizing the Appearance of Your Pair Site Builder Site.
Creating Template Parts
A template part is a pre-designed building block you can use to build your own templates. It is similar to a pattern and can be used as a building block for a pattern. However, template parts cannot be used in pages or posts.
Pair Site Builder comes equipped with a variety of different patterns, but you can also build your own.
Step 1: Accessing the Template Parts Interface
- Log in to your Pair Site Builder interface. See Logging in to Your Pair Site Builder Site
- In the left sidebar, hover over the Appearance tab
- In the drop-down, click Editor
- In the left sidebar, click the Patterns tab
- Click the Manage all template parts button

Step 2: Creating a New Template Part
- In the Template Parts interface, click the Add New Template Part button
- Fill in the template part information:
Name | This is the name of your new template part. |
Area | Select an area that the template part is built for: - General: Often performs specific roles and is not tied to a specific area. - Header: Typically is the area at the top of the site that holds the navigation, title, and logo. - Footer: Typically is the area at the bottom of the site that holds the site credits, social links, etc. |
- Click the Create button
- Use the block builder to build your pattern. For help using the block editor, see:
- When finished, click the Save button in the right sidebar
