Patterns
A pattern is a pre-designed building block that you can use on your site’s templates, pages, and posts. Patterns are designed to sync across your site, so they are generally used for site items that often need changes. If you make a change to the pattern, all site locations that use that pattern will update to match.
They are similar to a template part and may also be used as a building block in a template part. Likewise, template parts may also be used as a building block for a pattern.
Pair Site Builder comes equipped with a variety of different patterns, but you can also build your own.
Step 1: Accessing the Patterns Interface
- Log in to your Pair Site Builder interface. See Logging in to Your Pair Site Builder Site
- In the left sidebar, hover over the Appearance tab
- In the drop-down, click Editor
- In the left sidebar, click the Patterns tab
This opens the patterns interface. See Patterns for more information about this interface.
Step 2: Creating a New Pattern
- In the Patterns interface, click the + button
- In the drop-down, click Create Pattern
- Fill in the pattern information:
Name | This is the name of your new pattern. |
Categories | Select categories that apply to your pattern. You may select more than one. Categories are used to sort patterns. |
Synced | Toggle this feature on to sync the new pattern across multiple locations. |
- Click the Create button
- Use the block builder to build your pattern. For help using the block editor, see:
- When finished, click the Save button in the right sidebar
Note: If you are editing patterns for a specific location, saving changes may automatically apply the pattern to those areas on the site. Uncheck the boxes under the Templates heading to prevent your changes from being automatically applied. - Click the Save button again
This will create a new pattern.
Viewing Existing Patterns
- In the left sidebar, hover over the Appearance tab
- In the drop-down, click Editor
- In the left sidebar, click the Patterns tab
- Click the Manage all patterns button
This will take you to the Manage Patterns page, where you can view all of your patterns. For an in-depth explanation of this page, see Customizing the Appearance of Your Pair Site Builder Site.
