Every Pair Networks account includes a certain amount of web server disk space and bandwidth usage. Complete details about each service level can be found on our Compare Services page.
Disk and bandwidth usage can be checked through the Account Control Center. This information is available in the website Statistics section. You can also find more detailed website statistics by using programs such as Webalizer or Analog (which are available at no additional cost for our customers).
What Is Bandwidth?
Bandwidth, or transfer as it is also called, refers to the amount of information sent over a network. If someone visits one of your website pages, the files and images on your site need to be sent over a network to the visitor's Web browser. The larger the files, images, videos, etc. that needs to be sent over the network, the more bandwidth is used. Allowing files to be uploaded and downloaded using anonymous FTP counts towards your bandwidth allowance. Do not confuse anonymous FTP with using your additional FTP logins, which does not count towards your bandwidth allowance.
The items and actions that do NOT count towards your bandwidth usage include:
- Checking or sending e-mail
- Receiving or forwarding e-mail
- Uploading/downloading files and images to and from your web hosting account using your username and password
- Uploading/downloading files and images to and from your web hosting account using your additional FTP logins
What Is Disk Space?
Disk space refers to the amount of hard drive storage space you are allotted on a Pair Networks Web server. Here are the items that count towards your disk space allowance:
- Files and images on your account
- E-mail (mailboxes you created in the Account Control Center and your Main Account Mailbox)
The contents of your MySQL database(s) do not count towards your disk space allowance; however, in accordance to our policies, Pair Networks reserves the right to count usage over 200 MB per database against your disk space allowance.
How Over-Usage Charges are Calculated
Disk Space
The disk space you use for your account is recorded daily. At the end of each calendar month, the month's data is collected and averaged. If your average is then over the allowance for your account, a charge will appear on your next bill.
The charge for disk usage is 10 cents for each megabyte (MB) over the disk space allowance for your account. The highest usage day is dropped from the disk space calculation.
Bandwidth/Transfer
Package | Bandwidth Overusage Price |
Shared Hosting created before June 1, 2011 (FTP, Basic, Advanced, Webmaster, Developer, Commerce, and High Volume) | $1.99/GB |
Shared hosting created after June 1, 2011 (Package 1 - 4) | $1.99/GB |
Dedicated hosting | $0.99/GB |
The highest usage day is dropped from the calculation each calendar month.
Mailboxes
Your mailbox usage is recorded daily. At the end of each calendar month, the month's data is collected and averaged. The highest usage day is dropped from the mailbox calculation. Each additional mailbox costs $1 per month.
MySQL Databases
Your MySQL database usage is recorded daily. At the end of each calendar month, the month's data is collected and averaged. The highest usage day is dropped from the month's MySQL database calculation. Each additional MySQL database costs $3 per month.
Notification of Excess Usage
Twice a month, all customers who are projected to be over their disk space or bandwidth allowances are sent an e-mail showing their current usage and projected charges for the month if usage continues at the same rate. A Web-based interface for this information is available as part of the Account Control Center.
How to Check Traffic Usage Manually
To get your website hits and bytes totals from your website log files, use the summary.pl command. Here is a sample usage:
summary.pl www.2001020[3-9].gz
www.20010203.gz 1818 hits 7992812 bytes
www.20010204.gz 1813 hits 7506881 bytes
www.20010205.gz 2352 hits 10643793 bytes
www.20010206.gz 2242 hits 10403712 bytes
www.20010207.gz 2577 hits 11514519 bytes
www.20010208.gz 2335 hits 10683060 bytes
www.20010209.gz 2338 hits 9833533 bytes
TOTAL 15475 hits 68578310 bytes
The summary.pl program can handle compressed or non-compressed logs, in either common or extended format. It must be run through SSH and you must be in your www_logs directory (/usr/home/username/www_logs/).
