What is Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, is a security measure that verifies login attempts on your accounts. We've added this feature as an optional security measure to our hosting accounts.
Our two-factor authentication method utilizes a third-party authentication tool. There are various reputable authentication tools out there, such as:
The app you choose will generate codes used to access your account.
Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication on Pair Accounts
Before you get started, you will need:
- Any Pair Hosting Account
- A Two-Factor Authentication App
To add two-factor authentication to your Pair account, follow these steps:
Choose the tutorial that reflects your ACC interface type:
Not sure what the difference is? See Which ACC Interface Am I Using?
If you are using the Legacy Interface:
- Log in to your Pair account at my.pair.com
- Click on your username in the top right
- In the drop-down, click Manage Two-Factor Authentication
- Click Enable Two Factor Authentication
- Open your chosen two-factor authentication app, then scan the provided barcode or use the manual setup key to connect.
Note: This is the only time the setup key/barcode will display. If multiple people need access to the account, they should all scan the QR code or use the text key during this step.
Once connected, the app will display a new code approximately every thirty seconds. This code is used to authenticate your login. - In the Step 2: Enter Your Account Password text box, input your account password
- Go to the authentication app you just connected. Copy the current code into the Step 3: Enter the six-digit code shown by your authenticator app text box
- Click Submit
- On the next page, take note of your recovery codes. If you ever lose access to your authentication app, you will be required to provide a recovery code in order to regain access. We recommend printing out this list.
Be sure to keep your list of recovery codes in a safe place. You will need these if you ever lose access to your authentication. Failure to do so may result in total loss of account access. - In the textbox, type "I agree"
- Click Submit
Once the setup is complete, you will need to input the authentication code from your chosen authentication app when you log in.
