The signature shows receiving servers that the email is authentic and authorized by the domain owner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This does a few things:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Helps prevent email spoofing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helps keep your outgoing mail out of junk folders<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helps ensure successful delivery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-info\">Tip: When paired with SPF and DMARC, DKIM can boost protection against malicious spam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How DKIM Works<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When enabled, DKIM \u201csigns\u201d outgoing messages so that receiving servers can check the email\u2019s legitimacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s say you have an outgoing email. DKIM will take the headers and body from that message and create a hash value using a private key. The hash value acts as the DKIM \u201csignature.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DNS contains the public version of the key, which receivers use to decrypt the hash value.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a hash value doesn\u2019t match after decryption, then the email has either been tampered with or is attempting to fake your address. If the hash value matches, then the email is legitimate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When DKIM is enabled on a domain, DKIM is applied to all<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pair.com\/support\/kb\/virtual-mailboxes\/\"> mailboxes<\/a> on that domain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>DKIM only signs messages sent with SMTP authentication. This typically includes any messages sent from a mail client.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adding DKIM to a Domain<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>DKIM is only available on hosting packages with mailboxes. If you are on an account without mailboxes, some packages offer an email add on. All mailboxes on this domain will be affected.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once enabled, messages will begin using aDKIM after the new DKIM record is published to DNS.
