Learn how to use the ACC to take backups:
Hi. Sean here and we’re going to talk today about how to take backups.
So once you’re logged into the Account Control Center, on the left side of the screen, click on Files. Then at the bottom of that submenu is Backup Your Data. Click on that and it takes you to the default backup options. Here you’ll see that you can backup your entire home directory, your entire web directory, your logs directory, or your public_ftp directory.
That’s really nice if, say, you want to backup your public_HTML and you only have one website there and it’s relatively small, you can use these options here.
Now let’s say you have a number of sites on your account and they all take up a good bit of files and web space. It’d be better to back those up individually and here’s how you can do that. So if you want to backup an individual directory in your public_HTML, you want to navigate over here to the left side of your screen, under Files and click on Web and from there navigate to the directory that you want to back up.
In this case, we’re gonna go to subdomain.testdomain.com. Click on the blue folder icon to get into that directory and you can see right now we don’t really have anything in this directory, but we’re just doing this for illustration purposes.
To back up this individual directory, we want to click on the Backup button and if you are downloading these files to your computer and you’re on Windows-based computer, the zip compression method is probably what you want to use here.
If you’re just going to leave them on the server, a better choice is gzip tar. Select that and it just tells you this will backup with that in the directory you’re currently in to your backup directory, which is a subdirectory called Backup. It’s a subdirectory of the home directory. So we’re just going to click on Backup Select a directory and it tells us that the backup is in progress and where it’s going to be saved and the name of the file it’s going to be saved to and you can just let that run in the background. You can click on continue to carry on with whatever you need to do the Account Control Center. That’s all there is to it.
