How to Add a Domain to Your Hosting Account

A “domain” is another word for the URL your site uses, like pair.com or libsyn.com. If you want your own custom URL, find your package type below and follow their steps:

Adding a Domain on Shared, VPS, or Dedicated

Dedicated

If you have a Shared, VPS, or Dedicated hosting account, follow these steps.

Step 1: Register a Domain

The first step is to register your domain. 

Already have a registered domain? You can skip to Step 2: Add a Domain

Domain registrations last a year or more, and allows you to use the domain for that length of time. If your registration expires, then the domain will become available for someone else to register. 

To register a domain: 

  1. Log in to your Account Control Center at my.pair.com
  2. In the left sidebar, click Domains
  3. In the drop-down, click Register a New Domain Name
  4. In the Domain Name text box, type in your desired domain name, then click Proceed
    If someone else has already registered the domain, it will not be available to register. In this case, repeat this step until you find an available domain. 
  5. On the next page, click Proceed
  6. On the next page, select whether or not you are a Pair Domains customer. If you are already a Pair Domains customer, sign in to your Pair Domains account. If you do not have a Pair Domains account, follow the steps to create one.

    Pair Domains is a separate Pair service that offers domain registrations. A Pair Domains account is not the same as a Pair Networks hosting account.
  7. On the next page, you can select additional, similar domain names for registration. If you select another domain, scroll to the bottom and click the Continue button.

    If you do not want any additional domains, click No Thanks, Proceed
  8. On the next page:
    • Fill in the Registrant Information fields
    • Fill in the Payment Information fields
    • Read and agree to the Pair Domains Service Agreement
  9. Click Submit Registration  

Once completed the domain registration, it’s time to add the domain to your hosting account. 

Step 2: Add a Domain

After you have registered a domain, you can add the domain to your hosting account. By doing this, you will be able to launch the domain to the internet and build a website for it.

  1. Log in to the ACC
  2. Click Domains in the left sidebar
  3. Click Add a Domain Name
  4. Under Select Domain Name, select Add Domain Name and enter the registered domain name in the corresponding text field
  5. Under Select Hosting Type, select your preferred hosting type. See more information about hosting types in our article, What Types of Domain Hosting are Available?
  6. Click Proceed

This will add the domain to your hosting account. On the next page, it will show you the name servers associated with this domain name. You need to take note of these since you will need them in the next step. They will look something like:

dns3.pair.com

ns8.ns0.com

Step 3: Pointing Name Servers

Next, you need to change the name servers for your domain. When a domain is first registered, it is given filler name servers. However, when you add a domain name to a hosting account, you need to change the name servers to the ones associated with the hosting server. To make this change, you will need to go to your domain registrar.

If you completed Step 1 of this tutorial, then your domain registrar is Pair Domains. Find the steps to changing your name services in this article: Changing Name Servers.

Each registrar is different, so look at your registrar’s documentation for the specific steps. 

Give the changes 24 to 48 hours to be processed. After this period of time, your domain should be successfully added and ready to host a website.

If you have a Managed WordPress or Podcast Websites hosting account, follow these steps to add a domain to your account.

Step 1: Register a Domain

The first step is to register your domain. 

Already have a registered domain? You can skip to Step 2: Add a Domain to Your Website

Domain registrations last a year or more, and allows you to use the domain for that length of time. If your registration expires, then the domain will become available for someone else to register. 

To register a domain: 

  1. Log in to your Account Control Center at my.pair.com
  2. In the left sidebar, click WordPress
  3. In the drop-down, click Manage Domains
  4. Click the Register a New Domain button
  5. In the Domain Name text box, type in your desired domain name, then click Proceed
    If someone else has already registered the domain, it will not be available to register. In this case, repeat this step until you find an available domain. 
  6. On the next page, click Proceed
  7. On the next page, select whether or not you are a Pair Domains customer. If you are already a Pair Domains customer, sign in to your Pair Domains account. If you do not have a Pair Domains account, follow the steps to create one.

    Pair Domains is a separate Pair service that offers domain registrations. A Pair Domains account is not the same as a Pair Networks hosting account.
  8. On the next page, you can select additional, similar domain names for registration. If you select another domain, scroll to the bottom and click the Continue button.

Once you have completed the domain registration, it’s time to add the domain to your hosting account. 

Step 2: Add a Domain to Your Website

Your next steps will depend on if you already have a website created or if you’re also setting up your website for the first time. Find the tutorial below that best fits your needs, then follow those steps: 

I Haven’t Created a WordPress Site Yet

If you haven’t yet created a WordPress site on your Managed WordPress or Podcast Websites packages, then follow these steps. 

Once you have a domain name, you can create your site. 

  1. Log in to the Account Control Center (ACC) at my.pair.com
  2. In the left sidebar, click WordPress
  3. In the drop-down, click Create Site
  4. Fill out the email address, site nickname, and site title
  5. Under the Domain heading, select Host a new domain that you own
  6. In the available field, enter the domain name
  7. Click Create

Once successfully created, a new page will appear and display your new site information. The next step is to Point the Name Servers to Your Account.

Make special note of the Name Servers. You will need these in the next step.

I Already Have a WordPress Site

If you’ve already created a WordPress site and simply want to add a domain name to it, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Account Control Center (ACC)
  2. In the left sidebar, click WordPress
  3. In the drop-down, click List Sites
  4. Click the name of the site to which you would like to add a domain
  5. Under the main heading, click the Domains tab
  6. Click the Add Domain button
  7. Select Host a new domain that you own and enter the domain in the available field
  8. Check the box next to Make Primary if you want the new domain to be the primary domain for the site
  9. Click Add

Once successfully created, a new page will display your domain hosting information. The next step is to Point the Name Servers to Your Account.

Make special note of the Name Servers. You will need these in the next step.

Step 3: Point Name Servers to Your Account

If you are on a Weebly Hosting account, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Account Control Center (ACC) at my.pair.com
  2. Click Domains in the left sidebar
  3. Click Add a Domain Name
  4. Under Select Domain Name, select Add Domain Name and enter the registered domain name in the corresponding text field
  5. Under Select Hosting Type, select Weebly Site Builder Hosting
  6. Select your Weebly hosting plan
  7. Click Proceed

This will add the domain to your hosting account. On the next page, it will show you the name servers associated with this domain name. You need to take note of these since you will need them in the next step. They will look something like:

ns8.ns0.com
