Private IPs

All servers get one private IP address. Your assigned private IP never changes and may never be moved to a new server.

Private IPs may be used for traffic that originates on your server and is sent to any server. There isn’t any restriction on outbound network connections from your private IP.

Only a private IP may be used to send traffic to another one of your private IPs.

No incoming traffic will reach your private IP unless it originates from one of your servers or is the result of a request previously sent by your server, which means you shouldn’t use your private IPs for public DNS configurations.

Public IPs

Each server may have one public IP address. You can set up a public IP address when you launch a server. If you don’t set up a public IP address at the time of launch, you can add one later by following these instructions. The internet will reach your server using your public IP address. Public IPs can be published in public DNS. Forward DNS can be managed at your domain name registrar. If your registrar doesn’t support this, consider transferring your domain to pair Domains. Reverse DNS for your public IP addresses can be managed in the ACC.

Finally, it’s important to remember that you should never try to configure any IP address on your server other than the ones pair Networks assigns to you. Configuring such IP addresses won’t work, and might cause unexpected problems for your server, such as dropping your server off the network entirely.
