E-Mail - Virtual Mailboxes

General Information

Each account at pair Networks comes with one main account mailbox. Unless you change the settings, the main account mailbox receives e-mail to USERNAME@pair.com (where USERNAME is your account login name). If you have domain names, your main account mailbox will also receive e-mail to any address at any of your domain names (anything@example.com). However, you have the ability to set up additional mailboxes.

Setup

A mailbox can be added to your account through the Account Control Center (ACC). The steps required to add a mailbox are:
  1. Log into the Account Control Center (https://my.pair.com).
  2. Click E-Mail Management (located in the middle of the screen).
  3. Click Create New Mailbox (located under the heading Mailbox Usage).
  4. Enter the information that you would like to use for the new mailbox.
  5. Click Add Mailbox.
Follow the steps above for each mailbox that you want to set up. The new mailbox will be active within 15 minutes. The important information you need to include when creating up a mailbox is:
  • Username: You must enter a username that is 2-50 alphanumeric characters long when creating a new mailbox in the ACC. After you create the mailbox, and set up the mailbox with an e-mail reader such as Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, or webmail.pair.com, enter "username@example.com" in the e-mail reader's USERNAME field. Replace "username" with the mailbox username and replace "example.com" with the corresponding domain name. Please note that a mailbox username cannot be the same as your main account mailbox's username.
  • Password: Use this password to log into your e-mail reader and webmail.pair.com.
  • Full Name: This is the person the mailbox is set up for. It does not affect the recipient address or username. You would still be able to specify the outgoing name in your e-mail reader and webmail.pair.com to be something else.
  • Recipient Address: If you only want the mailbox to receive e-mail to one address in your domain name, put the same value for Username and Recipient Address. If you want the mailbox to have two e-mail addresses in your domain name, enter a unique Recipient Address and Username. Lastly, you can have this mailbox receive all e-mail for its domain name by leaving the Recipient Address field blank.
Use these settings to check your mailbox through an e-mail reader:
  • Username and Password: Remember to use the format "username@example.com" for the e-mail reader's USERNAME field. The password is the same one you used when you created the mailbox in the ACC.
  • POP3 server (Incoming e-mail server): mail.example.com (where example.com is the domain name used for the mailbox).
  • SMTP server (Outgoing e-mail server): please see the SMTP page for more information on your outgoing e-mail server.
To check a mailbox using webmail.pair.com, use these settings:
  • username@domain: use the mailbox username and the domain name associated with it.
  • Password: use the mailbox password.

Passwords

Mailboxes should be given passwords that are not the same as your main account username or password. If you ever need to reset the password for a mailbox, here are the steps:
  1. Log into Account Control Center (https://my.pair.com).
  2. Click E-Mail Management.
  3. Click the Mailboxes are Currently Configured link (located under heading Mailbox Usage).
  4. Select the e-mail address you wish to assign a new password.
  5. Enter the new password in the New Password and Confirm New Password fields.
  6. Click Commit Changes.
The new password will be effective within 15 minutes.
