E-Mail - Saving Junk E-Mail Messages to a File

You have two options if you wish to store junk e-mail messages in a file: 1) Create a junk e-mail file that can be accessed via the Web or 2) Create a junk e-mail file that lives in your home directory on one of our servers. To create a junk e-mail file accessible via the Web, you first must create a file for the e-mail to be stored using webmail.pair.com. Here are the steps:

  1. Log into pair Networks WebMail (https://webmail.pair.com) with the mailbox you want to use to access the junk e-mail file.
  2. Click Folders (at the top of the page).
  3. Enter the filename in the Create Folder field you wish to have the e-mail saved to. Do not select any other option on this page.
  4. Click Create.

Now that you have created the file, you need to specify a path to this file using the Account Control Center (ACC). If you wish to access the junk e-mail file using your username@pair.com account, follow the steps below:

  1. Log into the ACC (https://my.pair.com).
  2. Click E-Mail Management (located in the middle of the page).
  3. Click on the "username@pair.com Delivery Settings" link.
  4. Click the Junk E-Mail Filtering checkbox.
  5. Enter the following path into the "Save junk E-Mail to a file" field:

    /usr/home/mainaccountusername/.imap/junkfile

*Note: In the path above, be sure you type your main account username instead of the placeholder "mainaccountusername." Replace "junkfile" with the name of the file you created using webmail.pair.com.

  6. Click Commit Changes.

If you wish to access the junk e-mail file using another mailbox in your domain, follow the steps below:

  1. Log into the ACC (https://my.pair.com).
  2. Click E-Mail Management (located in the middle of the screen).
  3. Click the Delivery Instructions link (under the Mail Delivery Settings by Domain heading) of the domain that corresponds with the mailbox you have used for the junk e-mail file.
  4. Click the Junk E-Mail Filtering checkbox.
  5. Enter the following path into the "Save junk E-Mail to a file" field:

    /usr/boxes/mainaccountusername/example.com/mailboxusername^/.imap/junkfile

*Note: In the path above, be sure you type your main account username instead of the placeholder "mainaccountusername." Also, enter your domain instead of "example.com." Replace "mailboxusername^" with the mailbox's username. Make sure you include the "^" character after mailboxusername as it is part of the directory name. Replace "junkfile" with the name of the file you created using webmail.pair.com.

  6. Click Commit Changes.

If you wish to create a junk e-mail file in your home directory on one of our servers, then follow the steps below:

  1. Log into the ACC (https://my.pair.com).
  2. Click E-Mail Management (located in the middle of the screen).
  3. Click on the "username@pair.com Delivery Settings" link.
  4. Click the Junk E-Mail Filtering checkbox.
  5. Enter the path and filename you wish to use. For example, you can use the following path to create a junk e-mail file on your home directory:

    /usr/home/username/example

You can download this file from one of our servers via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or by using Secure Shell (SSH). To learn more about FTP, visit our Knowledge Base page Uploading Files Using FTP. To learn how to connect to our servers via SSH, visit Connecting With SSH.
