E-Mail - E-Mail Forwarding, Autoresponders, and Advanced Configurations

All accounts at pair Networks have the ability to use e-mail recipes, which are rules that specify how e-mail messages should be delivered. The following e-mail recipes can be setup through the Account Control Center:

Creating an E-Mail Recipe
  1. Log in to Account Control Center
  2. Click E-Mail Management (located in the middle of the screen)
  3. Click Create New Recipe (under the heading Mailbox Usage)
  4. Choose the e-mail address you want the recipe to apply to
  5. Choose the type of recipe you would like to create, and click Proceed
  6. Fill out the required fields for the recipe, and click Add Recipe
New recipes will take up to 15 minutes to take effect.

Deleting an E-Mail Recipe
  1. Log in to Account Control Center
  2. Click E-Mail Management (located in the middle of the screen)
  3. Click the link, underneath the heading Delivery Instructions, that corresponds with the domain name containing your recipe
  4. Select the Delete checkbox to the right of the recipe you wish to remove
  5. Click Delete Selected Recipes and Mailboxes

E-Mail Recipe Types

The recipe types available to you are described below:

Forward

This recipe automatically forwards incoming mail to the destination address specified.

Configuration Setting:

  • Forward To - specifies the destination you wish to have this mail sent to.
  • Junk E-Mail Filtering - enables filtering for the recipe.

Autoresponder

This recipe sends back a file in your account when mail comes in to a specific address in your domain name.

Configuration settings:

  • Respond with: - specifies the file that will be sent back in response. This is normally a plain text file. It needs to be located in your home directory or in a subdirectory.

Discard

This recipe automatically deletes incoming mail to the specified address. Once you click Proceed on the Create E-Mail Recipe page, the Discard recipe is automatically added.

File

Formerly called the Folder recipe, this recipe saves out incoming mail to a file in your account's home directory. You would then be able to download the mail through FTP (if your mail software supports importing mail in this way), or open it through SSH with pine or elm.

Configuration settings:

  • Save To - specifies the file name in your home directory where you wish to have this mail saved out.
  • Junk E-Mail Filtering - enables filtering for the recipe.

Filter

This recipe sends incoming mails through a program you've written or installed which processes the mail.

Configuration settings:

  • E-Mail Filter - specifies the path to the program, relative to your home directory.

Bounce

This recipe automatically returns incoming mail to the sender with an optional error message.

Configuration settings:

  • Error Message - allows you to create a short error message to be sent along with the bounced message.

Important Recipe Information
  • You can create multiple recipes for the same e-mail address. For example, to forward e-mail messages to two separate mailboxes, you must create two separate Forward recipes. You can also combine different types of recipes (e.g. a Forward and Autoresponder recipe). However, please note that Discard or Bounce recipes cannot be used with any other type of recipe.

  • It is recommended that you do not forward e-mail messages to a mailbox in your domain(s) that you did not create (e.g. anything@example.com) because by default those e-mail messages will be sent to your username@pair.com account.

  • If your only intention is to forward e-mail messages and not keep a copy of the messages on your pair Networks server, then you only need to create a Forward recipe. You do not have to create a mailbox with the same e-mail address as the Forward recipe.

  • Pmproto recipes still work as before, and you can continue to use pmproto if you like. However, pmproto is no longer officially supported. We recommend converting pmproto recipes to the ACC recipes when possible.
