E-Mail - Basics of E-Mail Services

Each pair Networks account includes one mailbox that can be accessed using a POP3 or IMAP e-mail reader (such as Outlook or Eudora). Basic Accounts or greater can use a Unix mail reader through SSH. Some popular UNIX e-mail readers are pine, elm, and mutt. All pair Networks mailboxes can be accessed online using WebMail.pair.com, regardless of account type. Your account mailbox will receive all mail addressed to any domain names on the account, regardless of username. For instance, if you had the domain name example.com, you would receive mail at any of the following:
sales@example.com
support@example.com
president@example.com
anythingyouwant@example.com
and any other username. No configuration is needed on your part -- this is enabled by default. However, you can modify your settings to discard, store, or forward e-mail sent to e-mail addresses that you did not create (e.g. anything@example.com). Changing your settings so that e-mail sent to these e-mail addresses to be discarded will help eliminate junk mail from flooding your username@pair.com account.

To change these settings, follow these easy steps:

  1. Log in to your account via the My pair Account Control Center (https://my.pair.com).
  2. Click E-Mail Management (located in the middle of the page).
  3. Click the Global E-Mail Delivery Settings link.
  4. Select the Discard E-Mail option.
  5. Click Commit Changes.

You can also send e-mail as coming from any address in your domain name, regardless of your actual account username. This is done through the settings in your POP3 or IMAP mail software.

If you want, you can add extra mailboxes to your account. There is now a separate instruction page on Creating Mailboxes.

These extra mailboxes would receive e-mail to a specific address you specify, and be received separately from your main account mailbox.

The largest allowed size for outgoing e-mail is 10 MB. E-mail messages larger than 10 MB will be returned with an error to the sender. We recommend use of SFTP/FTP for the transfer of large files.

Please note that the 10 MB limit includes the e-mail message and the encoding for the e-mail attachement itself. If you have attached a file that's 7-9 MBs, depending on the file, you may not be able to send your e-mail message.

Your account also includes the ability to forward e-mail to other e-mail addresses you might have, and to set up autoresponders to answer certain e-mail addresses. The powerful Account Control Center makes custom e-mail configuration fast and easy. The following Knowledge Base Support articles are available to help you set up your e-mail:

  1. Using a POP Mail Program
  2. Using the Pine Mail Program
  3. Creating Mailboxes
