Authoring/Development - Using Microsoft FrontPage
Microsoft FrontPage is a software package for Windows platforms, which is
intended for full development and management of your Web site.
The MS FrontPage server extensions are a set of
files that allow for special functionality for Web sites that are designed in
FrontPage. The special functionality of these extenstions includes the
capabilities of
running a search engine, a counter, a discussion board, and more.
pair Networks supports FrontPage 2000 extensions only.
Advanced level accounts and up support the FrontPage extensions. If you would like to use the FrontPage extensions and you have a Basic or FTP level account, you will need to upgrade your account. You must also use Dedicated IP domain hosting for the domain name with which you want to use FrontPage Server Extensions.
Note that you can still upload to your account with FrontPage without
having the extensions, though we do recommend using a dedicated FTP client
for uploads.
You can request this through the My pair Account Control Center. When the
process is completed, you will be e-mailed with a new password that will
be used only for FrontPage.
There is a way to optimize the structure of domain names in your account
with regards to FrontPage. Normally, the first domain name in your account
will be mapped to public_html. Then additional domain names will normally
have their own directories under public_html. While this structure will
work, it is not ideal. If you have FrontPage extensions installed for the
main domain name and then for a domain name in a subdirectory, the two
sets of extensions will conflict with one another.
The way to work around this is to have each domain name in your account
mapped to its own subdirectory of public_html, and then to install
FrontPage extensions separately for each domain name. If you would like to
restructure your domain names in this way, just e-mail support@pair.com.
You can connect to the server here by using the "Publish" or "Open
FrontPage web" commands from FrontPage. With the FP extensions in your
account, enter your site name as www.example.com, substituting your
domain
name for example.com of course. Choose to "List Webs" and then select to
log on to the "<Root Web>" and click OK. Enter your username and
your FrontPage password.

Select this option from the "Tools" menu. This is useful when you
suspect that internal links on your site are broken.

From the "Tools" menu, choose "Change Password." Enter your
old password, and your new password twice.
Yes and no. You should not FTP web-related files to your account if you
are using FrontPage.
This can interfere with FrontPage's operations. However, you can safely
FTP non-web files, such
as those used for mail forwarding, to other directories in your
account.
No. Using FrontPage with SSL is not supported.
You can remove the FrontPage extensions from your account if you will not
be needing them. While this doesn't free up that much disk space, it can
help keep your directories more orderly.
In your home directory, /usr/home/username/, you can remove:
- the "frontpage" directory
In your Web directory, /usr/www/users/username/,
you can remove:
- .htaccess (if you're not using it for something else)
- _private
- _vti_bin
- _vti_cnf
- _vti_inf.html
- _vti_log
- _vti_pvt
- _vti_txt
