Authoring/Development - System CGI: counter

Modifications Required: none
Optional Modifications: None recommended.

counter is a script that generates text-only counter values. It is normally used with server side includes. To use it, place the following in your SSI-enabled HTML source:

<!--#exec cgi="/cgi-sys/counter" -->

The server will parse this command, execute the counter script, and insert its results in place of the command, as plain text.

counter does not require any parameters in order to determine which counter is being referenced; it uses the current document name to determine this.

The counter program has a few options to produce more unusual counters. If you reference the script as counterbanner instead, the output will appear in a "large" font, simply by being run through the banner program.
