What can I do with QuickServe®?
Can I host multiple sites on a QuickServe® dedicated server?
Yes, you can host multiple Web sites on your dedicated server. However, you cannot resell access to your QuickServe® dedicated server to multiple parties. Our servers can only be used by a single customer (or organization) to maintain their own Web site (or related sites) through a single account.pair Networks Resellers are welcome to utilize QuickServe® dedicated servers for specific clients.
How much traffic can my server handle?
Quite a bit. Your dedicated server takes advantage of our high-quality blended network, which offers 10Gbps connections to three backbone providers including Verizon, Global Crossing, and Level(3).
Plus, the transfer/bandwidth allowance that you get with your QuickServe® dedicated server is more than enough for most of our QuickServe® dedicated server customers. But if you end up using more than your allotted amount, that's fine. You'll only have to pay $.99 per GB over your bandwidth allowance.
Can I host an adult-oriented site at pair Networks?
We are currently reviewing the possibility of hosting adult-oriented content. Our network capacity has outgrown technical concerns over supporting sites of this nature. Nonetheless, pair Networks reserves the right to refuse or discontinue service for any project that it considers unsuitable, undesirable, or otherwise unacceptable, pursuant to our service contract and policies. At the present time, this includes most adult-content sites.
Can I run any Internet Relay Chat (IRC) software on a QuickServe® dedicated server?
No. IRC software of any type is not allowed on pair Networks servers.
Can I use a QuickServe® dedicated server to run streaming media services?
Yes, you can. Our QuickServe® dedicated servers offer plenty of disk space and bandwidth to deliver this type of content. If you have questions about a particular type of streaming server or technlogy, please just contact our Sales Team at sales@pair.com.
Can I run a free e-mail service from a dedicated server?
No. We have found that the frequency of abuse incidents with this type of service is high and reflects poorly upon our network as a result. The best way to host such a system would be with pairColo, our co-location and network service.
Can I run a dedicated database server?
Yes, our QuickServe® dedicated servers are also available as Database-Only dedicated servers, at a lower price. All specifications are identical to the standard package of that type (QS-1,2,3,4, or 5), with the exception that Database-Only dedicated servers do not include any Web/FTP bandwidth allowance -- traffic is "local only" within our network. Please note that for the QS-6 offering, you cannot split a database across the two QS-5 servers.DB-Only dedicated servers can only be used for sites hosted at pair Networks. Sites utilizing a DB-Only dedicated server can be hosted on either a shared hosting account or on a dedicated server.
Please contact our Sales Team at sales@pair.com for more information about Database-Only dedicated server pricing.
Technical Questions
What services are included with your QuickServe® dedicated servers?
Our QuickServe® dedicated servers include all of the features and tools that our rock solid shared hosting servers offer, but you don't have to share those features or resources with other customers. Our fully managed dedicated server solution includes experienced, friendly customer support; high-end network and routing capabilities; 24X7 monitoring; daily data back-ups; and complete hardware replacement every 30 months upon request.
When you consider the high-quality, reliable hardware; the up-to-date and stable software and operating system; and the security, speed, reliability of our network, our QuickServe® dedicated servers are one of the best values in the dedicated server market today.
I need less disk space or bandwidth than is offered; can I purchase a server with a smaller drive or less bandwidth and pay less?
We keep our QuickServe® dedicated server packages standardized to improve our cost-effectiveness, which allows us to pass the savings on to our customers. However, if you have special needs, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly Sales Team at sales@pair.com, and we'll work to find a solution that's right for you.
Will pair Networks install any software I request?
While we cannot install any software package that you request, there are many common software packages that our QuickServe® Dedicated Server Team can install for a nominal fee. Please contact our Sales Team sales@pair.com for more information.
Do I have to upgrade my server to get new versions of your standard software packages?
No, you do not. We implement the same standard software upgrades for both our shared hosting and dedicated server customers.
Is the Account Control Center offered to QuickServe® customers?
Yes, all QuickServe® dedicated servers include the use of our Account Control Center.
How long does it take to get a server set up?
We fulfill orders in one business day.Of course, a server cannot be set up unless you make the initial payment and agree to our online contract when you sign up for the server.
Can I run Windows IIS or some other platform?
All QuickServe® servers are configured with FreeBSD or Ubuntu. If you wish to use Windows IIS or some other platform, take a look at our pairColo co-location and network service.
Can I co-locate my own hardware?
Yes, you can co-locate your hardware with pairColo, pair Networks' co-location and networks service. Visit pairColo for more information.
What happens if there is a hardware failure?
Our first priority in any instance of hardware trouble is to get your server back into operation. We constantly monitor our QuickServe® dedicated servers, and we fix problems as soon as we are alerted to them, usually within a matter of minutes. Chances are that if a problem would arise with your dedicated server, we will have fixed the problem before you were even aware that one occurred. In the cases of complete hardware failure, we have an extensive stock of parts on-site and will provide emergency parts replacement for failed servers. There is no additional cost to you for these services.
Who are your suppliers?
We have chosen to utilize a variety of suppliers to ensure greater availability and quicker turnaround for all products. We do have specific manufacturer preferences, largely based on our long experience in running FreeBSD and Ubuntu servers. We prefer SuperMicro motherboards and chassis, Western Digital and Seagate hard drives, Intel solid state drives, and Intel CPUs.
Can I have root access on my server?
We do not allow root access to customers on our managed QuickServe® dedicated servers; however, there are certain administrative functions that we can provide. If you'd like full administrative access to your server, please look at our pairColo co-location services.
Why can't I have root access?
Full administrative privileges are easy to abuse in a remarkable number of ways, many of which compromise the security of our network, or invite serious repercussions, legal or otherwise. We would be unable to provide our proprietary system software such as the Account Control Center, and traffic would have to be tracked by port bandwidth only (which would affect or preclude the backup systems we use). Also, it would be more difficult to investigate abusive practices such as network scans or spam. And of course, third-party software that you may choose to install may include security holes which would normally be caught by our review process.
Can you help me if I need a complex, custom dedicated server configuration?
Yes, we can. We have hundreds of dedicated server customers who run everything from a single dedicated server to complex configurations that involve dozens of servers. Please contact our Sales Team at sales@pair.com, and they'll help put together a solution that will meet your needs.
