The pair Networks Newsgroups
pair Networks
operates a private news server for use by
our customers. A variety of newsgroups enjoy active, friendly discussion
on a daily basis. All customers are welcome to participate, freely
exchanging ideas, tips, and opinions. Questions beyond the scope of our
support services, or indeed questions about nearly anything, are welcome
for discussion here.
You will need newsreader software of some kind. Netscape Communicator
includes this, for example, as the Messenger component. There
are also many standalone client programs available for various platforms;
you may search for these at
Download.Com
or the
TUCOWS Software Library.
The following information will be needed to configure your newsreader
to access our news server. If you have trouble finding the appropriate
settings in your software, please consult its documentation.
Our news server is protected by a password we make available only to
our customers. This makes the configuration slightly more difficult,
but helps ensure that the newsgroups are not abused by non-customers
or trolled by Spammers.
Please take the following steps to configure your newsreader software:

Start your newsreader and select "Preferences" or "Options" from a menu.

Enter the requested information. There can be quite a bit to fill
out or tweak. The most important pieces of information are:
News server: news.pair.com
Username: pair
Password: see below
If there is a checkbox such as "Use authorized login", please check it.
The password is displayed on your screen when you login to your account
through FTP or Telnet. It does change occasionally, so if you have
problems connecting to the news server, please doublecheck the password.

Select "Download Newsgroups" or "Subscribe" from a menu.
This will allow you to select the newsgroups you wish to subscribe to
and read.
